What is the situation on the labor market in Sweden: in-demand specialists
In some regions of Sweden there is a critical need for workers to fill jobs. At the same time, despite the deteriorating economic situation, many employers are striving to hire competent workers, said the Minister of Labor Market and Integration Johan Pehrson.
According to him, to become part of the labor market, it is important to have education and vocational training.
In the second quarter of 2023, 106,565 vacancies were registered in Sweden. These statistics indicate that the country is facing a labor shortage and needs more workers.
Sweden has a shortage of both highly educated and skilled workers. Among the highly educated, Sweden needs:
- midwives;
- civil engineers;
- systems analysts and IT architects;
- software and systems developers;
- police officers;
- nursing assistants;
- nurse specialists;
- primary school teachers;
- teachers and educators for children with special needs.

In the skilled worker category, Sweden needs:
- operators of mobile agricultural and forestry plants;
- bus and tram drivers;
- plumbers and pipefitters;
- production machine operators;
- builders;
- mechanics and car repairers;
- welders.
What kind of work can Ukrainians get and how much can they earn?
According to the latest statistics, 56% of Ukrainian refugees of working age are employed in Sweden.
At the same time, on job sites you can see that Ukrainians are offered the following jobs:
- Ukrainian language teachers and translators;
- sitters;
- cleaners;
- work in agriculture;
- work in warehouses.
There is no set minimum wage in the country, so each industry has pay that is negotiated by unions.
In particular, the average minimum wage is 2,500 euros (before deductions), and the hourly wage is approximately 18 euros.

In jobs where refugees can get a job, according to the website europa.jobs, the pay is as follows:
- cleaning – 2300 euros (13 euros/hour);
- gardening/harvesting – 2200 euros (11 euros/hour);
- cook – 2400 euros (17 euros/hour);
- care – 2370 euros (15 euros/hour).
At the same time, in 2023, more than 70% of migrant workers in Sweden earned more than 2,400 euros per month.
