JUNCTION VALLEY. Olymel management has announced that an agreement in principle has been reached between the company and the Union of Olymel Workers in Vallée-Jonction (CSN), as part of the blitz of the special mediator, Jean Poirier, which began Friday morning and continued until today.
Thus, in view of the prospect of a settlement, Olymel’s management postponed until Wednesday morning (1is September) sending redundancy letters that were to be sent on Monday to more than 500 employees assigned to the evening shift at the Vallée-Jonction plant.
“The decision to abolish the evening shift announced on August 24 is suspended to allow union leaders to organize a general assembly of its members and will remain suspended until a vote is taken by members of the Union of Workers of Olymel in Vallée-Jonction. The suppression of the evening shift […] will be dropped in the event of a vote in favor of the tentative agreement reached today. A favorable vote will end a strike which entered its fifth month yesterday, ”said Paul Beauchamp, 1is vice-president at Olymel.
