-WASHINGTON – Washington state was ranked the best state in the nation by US News & World Report in a new report released Monday night. Washington has ranked No. 1 since 2019.
The publication annually ranks the 50 states into a myriad of categories, including healthcare, opportunity, economics, and education. Washington ranked first in broadband access and GDP growth, in addition to tying for first place in the government’s credit rating score and ranking in the top ten of five other categories.
“I am very happy that the people of Washington are taking home this honor again.
It takes 7.6 million of us to make this state the dynamic place it really is. Washingtonians are motivated to lead and innovate in all aspects of our society, in work, business, education, healthcare and much more, “said Governor Jay Inslee.
“It was that same spirit that helped us recover from being the first state in the nation to hit COVID-19, and we are on our way to a robust recovery due to our unique attributes.”
The Evergreen State is an outdoor enthusiast’s dream with its geological diversity, ranging from mountains to deserts, rainforests and a Pacific coastline. It offers the Olympic Mountains, the San Juan Islands and Mount Rainier, one of the highest peaks in the country at Lower 48.
In addition to its scenic treasures, Washington is known as the birthplace of Starbucks coffee, The Boeing Co., and Microsoft Corp. Due to its coastal location, Washington is a key exporter to the United States, particularly for transportation equipment.
In addition, Washington is crucial for the country’s food and agricultural industry, generating 70% of the country’s apples, and also leading the production of milk, potatoes and livestock.
The aerospace industry is a major economic engine for the state. The military and defense sector employs the second largest number of people in Washington, with more than 127,000 active duty, reserve, guard and civilian personnel. Other successful industries include marine, tech and clean energy.
