The Darkness’s ‘I Believe In A Thing Called Love’ has rocketed to No. 1 after Taylor Swift was filmed enthusiastically singing it to boyfriend Travis Kelce.
While attending the US Open women’s final in New York City on Sunday (September 8), the singer was spotted dancing and singing along to the 2003 track, inadvertently sparking a new wave of affection for the song.
In another example of what has been dubbed “Swiftonomics” – signifying the “You Belong With Me” singer’s enduring financial and cultural hold – the song quickly reached No. 1 on the iTunes Rock chart in America and climbed several other charts around the world, more than 20 years after its original release.

The Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins has since posted a message to Swift and Kelce on TikTok, expressing his gratitude for the renewed love of the song.
“A few weeks ago, my daughter and I went to see Taylor Swift at the Zurich stadium and the welcome they gave us was amazing. They put us in a nice VIP area, I had Chris Rock on one side, Roger Federer on the other, I was dad of the year,” he said.
After learning that the video had gone viral after receiving countless messages from fans, he continued by saying that it was “a really heartwarming moment for me, and my little girl can’t wait to tell her friends at school.
“Thanks Taylor, thanks Travis, thanks to everyone who loves tennis, it’s a great start to the day. Well done guys.”
Fans are calling it a “full circle moment,” given that Swift was featured in a 2016 Apple Music commercial in which she lip-synced to the song and danced around a home office.
Talk to Billboard Of the ad, Hawkins said at the time: “I didn’t think we could get any sexier, but somehow Taylor raised the bar! Taylor Swift was coming to a lot of our shows back then. It’s nice to see she hasn’t given up on her roots! Go, go, Swiftmeisteress!”
