“How can teachers react when a little boy asks to be called by another first name, girl? “.
These are the kinds of questions that the members of l’association The Saw East Dyke and training participants gathered in the communal hall of Moisdon-la-Riviere (Loire-Atlantique), this afternoon of Thursday, May 25, 2023.
Unlearn your biases
Sitting in a semi-circle, the assembly discusses, debates, seeks the best response. Today’s group is made up of a dozen people from the sectors of healthof social and of education.
Trainer for adults, employee at Pôle Emploi, staff at the Lycée Guy-Moquet in Châteaubriant (Loire-Atlantique)… All of them registered for the workshop to train in reception of LBGTI+ people.
” The objective is to reflect on prejudices and to give a theoretical contribution, without being in a vertical relationship or in a professorial position”, describes Sacha Frinkingmember of the Association.
To stimulate reflection and discussion, the organizers use popular education methodssuch as moving debates, which allow you to physically position yourself in response to a binary question, then to discuss your choice with the other participants.
Reach a wider audience
The association started these trainings two years ago, following contact with a nurse from the Châteaubriant hospital, who was looking to make her screening service more inclusive. “It’s good to want to welcome LGBT people, but the best thing is to see shapes for that”, explains Sacha Frinking.
This first experience will have made it possible to highlight a real demand from professionals and the public, and the association from now on focus its activity on these workshop days.
Today, La Scie est Gouine seeks to do more broaden the spectrum of people who take part in training.
“We want to address all people who welcome the public, whatever their place in the hierarchy of their structure and their diploma, such as football coaches, receptionists or medical secretaries”.
The price of the day, between 5 and 35 €also adapts to everyone’s wallet, with the desire that ” the budget is not an obstacle ».
A day to be wrong
“We put some blurring instead, and it’s very pleasant to go to rough things that seemed simple to us», Explains Christelle, trainer for adults who participates in the day.
Far from providing immutable answers, the members of the association seek on the contrary to complicate situationsto encourage the search for answers collectively.
It’s a day designed to make mistakes, to talk nonsense. There are no silly questions.
If this day is intended as a “generalist” introduction to issues of inclusion and reception of LGBTI+ people, the association is also considering developing focused on specific themes like the intersex peopleor people trans.
The members of La Scie est Gouine also offer form teams, directly at their place of work. “The important thing is that everyone is volunteers and interested and not captives” supports Sacha Frinking.
Upcoming trainings are scheduled for 1er (Issé), 8 et 30 (Moisdon-la-Riviere)Junenext. Other workshops will also be set up in the fall.
