“Invite your mayor.” A city councilor around the table at a local’s home is reminiscent of President Valéry Giscard d’Estaing who invited himself to dinner with the French. Except that here, it’s the opposite in La Réole, in the south of Gironde. Mayor Bruno Marty suggests that residents invite him to their homes: “It’s not Giscard, it’s Marty” he said.
The operation launched at the end of January should allow the mayor, according to his forecasts and the first meeting requests recorded, to meet around fifteen households per month. Reservations are made online.
An aperitif “to talk about problems”

Monday February 20 at 6 p.m., Bruno Marty has an appointment with Francis and Laetitia. The two residents of La Réole decided to invite the mayor to talk with him “to talk about problems”, exchange, and give ideas to the councilor. In the discussions, the couple raises several issues: security, illegal dumping, flooding, etc.: “The fact that he comes to people’s homes allows you to take a tour of the neighborhood to see what you might forget to report from time to time.” explains the resident.
Telephone in hand, the councilor takes notes during the conversation: “I report to my departments each time to see how we can move forward.” he explains. For the mayor, there is no question of talking about demagoguery: “I have already had several requests regarding illegal dumping. I had a meeting with the road department to find solutions“.
Speak without filter
For the mayor, by discussing around a table, whether during a meal or an aperitif, it is easier for residents to confide in each other, outside the walls of the town hall: “When you enter my office, you do not have the same relationship with the mayor as if you were at home“. He adds : “The human aspect is very important. In rural communities, the danger is forgetting the population.”.
