La Poste achieved a consolidated profit of 254 million francs in 2023. The reduction in letter and parcel volumes, the decline in payment traffic as well as the increase in prices have had a strong impact on the financial result, the yellow giant indicated on Thursday.
The result corresponds to expectations, “taking into account the difficult context”, indicates the Post in a press release released on the occasion of the annual press conference of the company in the hands of the Confederation. During its previous financial year, La Poste saw its consolidated profit fall by more than a third, to 295 million francs.

“La Poste must have the necessary room for maneuver to be able to concentrate on customer needs and develop its services, and thus maintain its long-term success,” the yellow giant further notes in its press release.
“We need more freedom”
To achieve its mission, La Poste needs “more freedom”, declared its president Christian Levrat on Thursday during the annual press conference. He called for an adaptation of the legal framework concerning the yellow giant.
“There is a certain urgency”, affirmed the Fribourgeois to the media. Faced with current challenges, particularly in the field of digitalization, “we have taken measures to develop the first responses,” assured Christian Levrat.
“But it’s not enough,” according to the former socialist state advisor. La Poste needs intervention from the political world in order to have more room for maneuver. He cited the issues of electronic identity, electronic patient records as well as e-voting.
General Director Roberto Cirillo also noted the “difficult regulatory conditions” of the Post Office. “We don’t want to turn ourselves into a museum, we want to build the Post Office of tomorrow,” said the Ticino boss.
