It’s Christmas before time for wine lovers. La Paulee, the event that celebrates the richness of the Burgundy vineyard, returns to New York from Friday February 24 to Saturday March 4. On the program: lunches, dinners and tastings of all kinds, the prices of which range from 125 to several thousand dollars.
The kickoff of this boozy rendezvous, founded in 2000 by the American sommelier Daniel Johnnes, a Francophile who notably worked in Montrachet (Tribeca) and the restaurants of Daniel Boulud, is a tasting organized at 26 Bridge, in Brooklyn. The public is invited to immerse themselves in the diversity of wines from the region (Beaujolais, Mâcon, Chablis, etc.). The selection is ensured by the Franco-American sommelier Yannick Benjamin, who has just offered the neighborhood of his childhood, Hell’s Kitchen, a beautiful wine store.
Several special meals are mouth-watering. On Wednesday March 1, head to the restaurant of the Alsatian Gabriel Kreuther, on the edge of Bryant Park, for the “Chassagne-Montrachet dinner”, the name of this village which concentrates a large part of the region’s production. Three local winegrowers will offer their bottles to accompany dishes simmered by the French chef.
Another dinner, just as enticing: on Friday March 3, actor and winemaker Jean-Marc Roulot and chefs Michel, Marie-Pierre and Léo Troisgros, representatives of two generations of the famous line of legendary chefs, will join forces to offer a unique gastronomic moment at the Legacy Records restaurant. Several wines from Domaine Roulot will be offered, while the Troisgros family will provide the dishes. It will be necessary to pay the price: 6,500 dollars (excluding taxes).
We will find Jean-Marc Roulot at the end of this exhilarating week, as guest of honor at a gala dinner (yet another) at Chelsea Piers. The menu will be concocted by several great chefs (Daniel Boulud, David Kinch, Gabriel Kreuther, Melissa Rodriguez and Stephen Lewandowski). To your health above all!
