La Palma marks the step towards normality brother

The afternoon had set in to regain sensations. For La Palma to take a step towards normal brotherhood, that step in which the image of his, until now, only crowned Virgin wore. So that the sky of La Viña would open up, scare away the dark clouds and be an accomplice of a historical moment: the return to the streets of Cádiz in one step with chargers. Two years had passed since the last time some hardworking brothers carried an image around town. And it was precisely the Virgen de la Palma on November 1, 2019. Shortly after, the pandemic arrived and ended for a long time all external religious manifestations. The Archconfraternity opened the way to the processions as they were known before March 2020. That is why the street of La Palma was packed. There was desire to see in the face of the Virgin the hope of a better future.

In the church, while the procession was being prepared, the older brother of the Arch-Confraternity, Francis Lucero, stressed that the brother’s day had become “a day of thanksgiving for the neighborhood, which fortunately has been without cases of Covid for a long time”. Aware that the departure of the little Virgin was opening “the way to normality” in the world of the brotherhoods, Lucero valued “the happy faces of the residents of the neighborhood, the euphoria that was palpable from early on, since they have come to the morning rosary and blessing of the waters more than 200 people ”.

In a street of La Palma, the applause of the public was overflowing when the passage led by Antonio Valero appeared on the lintel. The masked handles drew an unusual image. Ringing of bells, Royal March and the street fervor recovered. The pace advanced to the beat of the marches ‘Palma Coronada’ and ‘Mística Palma’, performed by Julián Cerdán’s band from Sanlúcar, to search for La Caleta, a novelty on the route, and continue their walk through the wine district. And the Cádiz brotherhood once again had another reason for joy after the departure of the Virgen del Rosario on October 12.
