La Liga president Javier Tebas submitted his resignation on Wednesday. This seems to end the period of the controversial football boss, but according to Spanish media he wants to stand for a new term.
Tebas is regularly involved in riots. Earlier this year, the story emerged that the 61-year-old Spaniard had provided false evidence in the much-discussed bribery case surrounding FC Barcelona.
In June, Real Madrid filed a complaint against Tebas. The chairman replied to Real striker Vinícius Júnior on X, after he had accused La Liga and the Spanish Football Association of not taking decisive action against racism.
Tebas’ term expires on December 26. He is already resigning to speed up the election process for a new chairman. According to the Spanish press, that is part of his plan.
By submitting his resignation, Tebas can stand for re-election. If the Spaniard does indeed do that, he will go for his fourth consecutive term as La Liga president. He has been in office since 2013.
