Spanish footballer Isco has agreed on a two-year contract with FC Sevilla and will become the Andalusian club’s third pre-season signing. The 30-year-old attacking midfielder has been a free agent since June after his contract with Real Madrid expired.
“Isco has already arrived in Sevilla, where he will undergo routine medical examinations on Monday. If everything goes well, nothing will prevent him from signing a two-year contract.” the club said in a statement. In the summer, Sevilla already hired stopper Marcao from Galatasaray Istanbul and left-back Alex Telles, who came on loan from Manchester United.
The 30-year-old attacking midfielder has been working in the “white ballet” team since 2013, but in other seasons he did not get as much space and decided not to extend his contract. Last year, due to back problems, he started only 17 games, of which he was in the starting line-up three times.
Isco played 246 matches for the Madrid club, scoring 37 goals. He enjoyed the championship title in La Liga three times, triumphed in the Champions League five times and the Club World Cup four times. In the past, he also worked in other Spanish clubs – Málaga CF and FC Valencia. In the jersey of the national team, he completed 38 matches and scored 12 goals in them. However, since participating in the 2018 World Cup in Russia, he has not often played for the national team.
The former European under-21 champion will meet again in Seville with coach Julen Lopetegui, who led him in Madrid and in the national team. Isco is FC Sevilla’s third new player in the current transfer window after defenders Marco and Alex Telles. Defenders Jules Koundé and Diego Carlos left the club in the summer. Last season’s fourth best team in La La Liga will kick off the 2022/2023 season with a Friday match against Osasuna Pamplona.
