When we analyzed the chances of the teams that qualified for the semifinals of winning the second phase of the Apertura, we said that Cartaginés had the best roster of the four contenders.
Unfortunately, that payroll was released to play soccer when everything was almost lost. The second half of Cartaginés against Alajuelense was spectacular and I do not hesitate for half a second to assure that if in the first leg, after the League tied them 2-2 with an illegal goal, the misty ones go over the León and play as on the return, they skin him and win that match. Thus, they would have come back to the game with an advantage.

But the opposite happened and this is what Hernán Medford does not want to recognize.
After Montenegro’s goal, Alajuelense was the team that seized command of the match, the hosts did not react and quickly a goal from Bryan Ruiz buried them in defeat.
In both games, the errors of the referees harmed Carthaginians, but in the first game, the team had enough time for those errors not to be reflected on the scoreboard. The team had no reaction, Alajuelense was better, they defeated them 3-2 and there Medford took advantage of the judge’s mistakes, to launch the famous smoke screen that bothered him so much later, and justify that defeat.

In the return game, there YES that the judge’s mistakes hurt Cartaginés, not so much because of Moya’s offside goal, but because of Faerrón’s lack of a penalty against Estrada that the judge swallowed.
The game was 1-1 and Cartaginés had the League erased from the grass; If Juan Gabriel Calderón sanctioned the penalty and the misty players scored it, how that match was being presented, a 3-1 in favor of the mists was more feasible than a 2-2 that favored the mangoes.
Logically that with the 1-1 and the classification tied, the League lowered its guard, slowed down the offense, played with the clock and the numbers, saving football and energy for what comes, that provincial duel par excellence from tomorrow.
The other semifinal, Herediano liquidated in the first leg with that surprising, forceful, lapidary 3-0. Jefferson Brenes’ goal in the second leg (0-1) (4-0), only served to hammer the nails into the Monster’s coffin.
Also the Team with the final assured, saved energy and that allowed the purple ones to play their best but late minutes.
