November 30, 2024 – La Libertad, Peru, is making significant strides in its national measles and polio vaccination campaign. Reaching an impressive 90% of its goal for measles vaccination and 89% for polio, the department has gone above and beyond in protecting its youngest citizens.
The regional success is evident across La Libertad. Sixty-seven out of the region’s 83 provinces have achieved a remarkable 95% vaccination rate. Notable leaders in this effort include Gran Chimú, Pataz, Pacasmayo, Julcán, Santiago de Chuco, Otuzco, Sánchez Carrión, Bolívar, Ascope, Virú, and Chepén, all exceeding the 95% target.
"Parents are reminded that National Immunization Scheme vaccines are free and available at health facilities," emphasizes regional health officials, ensuring all families have access to vital protection.
While Trujillo province faces a vaccination gap, dedicated healthcare workers continue their efforts, visiting primary schools to administer the crucial measles and polio vaccines.
In Virú, the Integrated Health Network (RIS) recently organized a dedicated vaccination day in the region’s main square. Children up to 6 years old from Perpetuo Socoro and Virú educational institutions received their measles vaccine. The event also reached the Virgin Glass of Milk Committee at Las Mercedes de Trujillo, with children receiving the life-saving immunization.
