La Libertad is a benchmark in an initiative that promotes the circular economy in the country – News from Trujillo, La Libertad, Peru

  • On behalf of the Chamber of Commerce of La Libertad, in the presidency of CREEAS, Fernando Guerra, signs a commitment to the initiative “Coalition for a Circular Economy in the Manufacturing Industry of Peru” which brought together leaders of institutions that are members of the La Libertad Innova Project.

The innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem of La Libertad is consolidated as a benchmark in the north of the country, therefore, represented by the Regional Committee of Business, State, Academy and Organized Civil Society (CREEAS), the region was considered part of the Coalition for a Circular Economy in the Manufacturing Industry of Peru, whose official launch was held on Tuesday, April 25 simultaneously in Trujillo, Lima and Arequipa, and brought together leaders of public and private entities.

“We must move towards an inclusive circular economy in Peru, which allows us to use natural resources with greater intelligence and caution, take advantage of waste, recycle and give them a new life to turn them into new products”, said the President of the Republic, Dina Boluarte Zegarra.

The signing of this initiative had the deputy president of CREEAS, Fernando Guerra Fernández, as representative of the north node in La Libertad, who was accompanied by the Vice Minister of Environmental Management, Giuliana Becerra Celis. The protocol act of signing commitments was held at the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce of La Libertad (CCLL) and was attended by the general manager of the business union, as well as representatives of ADAS, UNT, UPN, Upao, UCV and the National Society of Industries (SNI) and other organizations from La Libertad.

“We have a clear vision and we aspire to consolidate La Libertad as the most innovative region of the Northern Macroregion. We believe that the circular economy is an innovative strategy that will contribute to the sustainability of companies, our society and the planet. The circular economy in the world is just over 14 years old and only 9% in the world have adopted circularity, so there is much to be done”, Fernando Guerra stated.

Currently, it is imperative to contribute to the awareness and development of capacities in the circular economy, through innovation and technological diffusion, exchange of good practices and successful experiences, as well as knowledge management and the establishment of financing mechanisms.

The circular economy model, from the conception of the company, includes the “seven Rs” of redesigning, reducing, reusing, repairing, renewing, recovering and recycling. Taken together, they form a comprehensive initiative through which companies can preserve the environment and, at the same time, create business value.

The driving group of the Coalition for a Circular Economy in the Manufacturing Industry of Peru is made up of the Ministry of Production, Ministry of the Environment, German Cooperation, SNI, European Union, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), UTEC, Tecsup and the YOU BELIEVE.

Currently, the Chamber of Commerce of Liberty (CCLL) has been promoting green spaces and events for companies to achieve sustainable environmental management with social responsibility. For this reason, within the framework of its PLANTS project (Lever for the Agrosustainable Transition), signed by the Al Invest program, component 1 led by Secua of the European Union, it will seek to promote systems of traceability, sustainability and sustainable agricultural practices, as well as the circular economy, for the green and resilient transition of MSMEs.

CREEAS executes the project to Revitalize the Regional Innovation Ecosystem called “La Libertad Innova” which is led by the La Libertad Chamber of Commerce and is co-financed by ProInnóvate. Within the prioritized productive sectors of the project, there is leather and footwear, agro-industry, metal-mechanics, mining, tourism, health, construction, among others.
