The British Academy Cuscatleca had a double celebration with the victory of its team in the Jr. NBA and under-17 category at the start of basketball in La Libertad, corresponding to the departmental phase of the LX edition in the 2024 National Student Sports Games promoted by the INDES.
The first celebration of the ABC came with the 50-23 victory against Colegio Nazareth on the first day of the Jr. NBA men’s category (13-14 years), a game in which Cooper Tidwel scored 21 points and Rafael Álvarez contributed 12 .
For Colegio Nazareth, the player with the highest points scored was Ángel José Góchez with 11 points.
The boys from the British Academy Cuscatleca took control of the game from the first two periods, closing with a 21-5 lead. ABC’s dominance was consolidated in the third roll with a 32-11. At the end of the match the score 50-23 was stamped on the cards.
“We played as a team and it was everyone’s effort, we are improving little by little. Very happy with the performance but we will see what can be improved for the following games. We want to leave a good mark and raise the name of our academy,” said Cooper Tidwel, ABC player.
“We have worked for six months for this tournament, now we are going to have to show what we have worked on in this time because there are teams that are going to demand of us. Cooper can give more and the other boys can also give more of them,” said coach Julián Galdámez, from the Cuscatleca British Academy.
The other victory for the British Academy was with a score of 32-29 against the brave Colegio Nazareth in the men’s under-17 category, a match that was decided in the last minutes with a basket by Juan Pablo Betancourt and Lucas Miguel.
Both games took place on the fields of the Nazareth School in Santa Tecla.
Geovany Delgado, student basketball delegate in La Libertad of INDES, explained that this discipline was something expected by schools in the area.
“We have 10 men’s teams and seven women’s teams, 15-17 years old category; five in women and seven in men in the Jr. NBA category and we will be playing about 90 games in this departmental stage,” said Delgado.
In the Jr. NBA category, the best four teams from the men’s and women’s branches will qualify for the regional phase. In this instance they will face the representatives of San Salvador and Chalatenango, while in the under-17 category the two best from each branch will qualify.
In the men’s branch of the Jr. NBA category, the Lamatepec School, Cuscatleca British Academy, Champagnat School, Santa Cecilia School, Alberto Masferrer Catholic School Center, Nazareth School and Arce Jeriel School participate.
In women’s competition, La Floresta School, Cuscatleca British Academy, Santa Inés School, Alberto Masferrer School Center and Champagnat School compete.
In under-17 the men’s teams from Colegio Champagnat, Centro Escolar Católico Alberto Masferrer, Colegio Nazareth, Colegio Santa Cecilia, Colegio Arce Jeriel, Colegio Lamatepec, Colegio El Camino, Colegio El Camino and Academia British Cuscatleca participate.
For women, La Floresta School, Santa Inés School, Alberto Masferrer School Center and Champagnat School are registered.
