La Laguna Store Invites Island Artists to Decorate Rubber Ducks for Charity Auction: Pathomania Project

Over the years, rubber ducks have worn all kinds of clothing. From the most crazy professions to the fictional characters of the moment, these toys have always innovated in their clothing. The Fernando González store joins the fashion and invites island artists to decorate their art.

It seems that rubber ducks never go out of style and in La Laguna they are completely the order of the day thanks to an initiative that has combined solidarity with artistic creation. Pathomania is the name of this project that started this month of April and has proposed to put the most original ducks on the windows of the iconic Laguna decoration store. Fernando Gonzalez. But the ducks don’t stop there and promise to visit the most famous places on the Island to take the most diverse pictures.

It is not in vain that it has been open for more than 70 years and has been adapting to different levels and trends in the world of decoration, household goods and gifts. For many years, the trade has had a special relationship with rubber ducks, which have more than once crossed the shop windows and the hearts and shelves of many of their customers.

Now, the store wanted to go one step further and has decided to share its passion for these little ducks with a group of artists who will, independently, give their unique vision of these decorative items. So, from this month of April until the end of the year, every 30 days a new creator will decorate their own duck and at the end of the year an auction will be held for them. All the money will go towards collaborating with him Teidela, the non-profit association for the fight against ALS in the Canary Islands.

The multifaceted artist from La Palma Fran Pedrianes is behind this campaign, which happened to him a few months after he was in charge of the social media accounts of the La Laguna store. Innovation in the shop windows and giving a new opportunity to island creators are the reasons that led Pedrianes to start this adventure. These ducks that are the star of Fernando González’s solidarity campaign are larger than those that are usually sold and are about 20 centimeters long and about 18 centimeters high.

Jennifer Doan is a multidisciplinary creator from Tenerife who is launching this project she has chosen collage to shape Doloresthe first work of art Pathomania. He studied Psychology and although he works like that, he has never abandoned the artistic side and he uses meaningful treatments for this work because, he is sure, “this is all as part of my daily life and I see it as a tool for work and personal growth”.

From an early age he developed his interest in art, experimenting with a wide range of techniques and styles. Her approach and ability to combine different media has brought her to the world of contemporary art. He makes sure that he always stays learning, challenging the boundaries of traditional art while exploring new ways of expression and immersing himself in his artistic practice. Therefore, outside of her role as a psychologist, she also develops purely creative work and even tattoos with the hand technique sometimes. He also sells some of his creations, such as prints, in various stores.

When they proposed to establish the project Pathomania, do not hesitate because, in addition, “he has a great goal”, that is to collaborate with the Teidela society. your duck, Doloresmade from recycled materials, and to give it shape she first applied the primer, “with a lot of patience,” says the artist, which is why she decided to call it this.

She admits that she didn’t know for a while how to approach this project, because she was the first participant to participate and that’s why the duck “has had several dresses that don’t she liked it.” Finally, she chose to work in the way that made her feel more comfortable, using glue and recycled paper which allowed him to immerse himself completely in the process which, he says, “I really liked.” Now, she encourages other artists to participate in this project because of its closeness and wants to see the final collection that the project will offer at the end of the year, when it is clear that prospective buyers will have problems finding their favorite duck.
