La Laguna invites owners of vacant buildings to apply for the municipal program to allocate them to affordable rentals

The Municipal Society for Housing and Services (Muvisa) of La Laguna launches a new communication to people and entities that own empty and completed buildings to invite them to submit their proposals to the tender for the purchase by the entity.

Muvisa allocates 4 million euros to purchase developments in the city and incorporate them into the 70 homes that it already allocates to regulated rentals, where the assigned families pay a maximum of 30% of their income.

This year Muvisa will allocate 4 million euros for these acquisitions, with the aim of allocating these homes to affordable rentals and continuing to increase the local supply capacity, which already has 70 homes.

The initiative, with all the information available at the link www.muvisa.com/index.php/noticias/anuncios-y-convocatorias/569-adquisicion-de-viviendas-2024, is part of the strategic plan for housing of the organization, which involves the construction of new settlements, the rehabilitation of pre-existing residential complexes and constant work with the municipal territories, also through various lines of help, with which we want to continue to progressively advance towards the objective of providing the city with a sufficient public housing stock.

“The Departments of Housing and Social Assistance, Muvisa and the Department of Urban Planning have joined forces to address the housing situation in La Laguna”, states the mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, who recalls that ‘we are aware of the difficulties and that it is a reality that transcends our territorial limits, also in terms of jurisdiction, but we cannot wait any longer.’

In addition to this strategic plan, “which is already underway because these actions require lengthy procedures, and we are allocating a huge amount of resources to improve the habitability of pre-existing developments, next month we will present a comprehensive study on construction housing in La Laguna, which we commissioned from the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna and which will be the starting point for making various decisions in this sector”, states the mayor.

In this sense, the councilor for Housing and Territorial Planning, as well as president of Muvisa, Adolfo Cordobés, recalls that the Municipal Corporation is managing 55 million euros for the rehabilitation of five privately owned residential complexes which have more than 50 years, with the programs co-financed by the ARRU and the ERRP benefiting more than 3,500 properties, and is already working on new construction projects for more than 180 new homes, to “create a municipal public park that will also strengthen the growing demand public of a sufficient offer for purchase at affordable prices”.

Likewise, the Autonomous Body granted free of charge to Muvisa and the Canarian Housing Institute (ICAVI) 3,500 square meters of land owned by the municipality for the construction of housing, six lots located in Finca España, La Cuesta, Valle Tabares, Tejina and Taco, worth almost 1.8 million euros.

“We must face the growing reality of families with income, especially those who earn the minimum wage (estimated at 1 in 5 people), who have serious difficulties in accessing the free real estate market and who are faced with unaffordable prices,” says Viciana .

This group of people receiving the SMI is in a highly compromised situation, since the administration must give priority to the most serious cases, i.e. people in situations of social emergency or housing risk.

These people are covered by the Department of Social Welfare and in collaboration with Muvisa and various third sector organisations, through a network of emergency housing resources, as well as through assistance with rent and mortgage payments, social and work reintegration programmes, etc.
