Paris. Hard rock band Aerosmith and Universal Music Group (UMG) said they have signed a global strategic alliance agreement, whereby Aerosmith’s entire catalog of recorded music will be moved to UMG before the band’s 50th anniversary and the UMG IPO next month.
UMG will also be home to future Aerosmith merchandising and music projects and will work with the band on new films, television and other audiovisual content.
“The global success of Aerosmith places them among the greatest rock icons of all time,” said UMG President and CEO Sir Lucian Grainge.
“On a personal level, I couldn’t be more proud that they have chosen UMG as their global partner.”
Since the band was founded in Boston in 1970, it has sold more than 150 million albums worldwide.
They were the first rock band to achieve commercial success with a hiphop collaboration with Run DMC on “Walk This Way.”
“This is a victory for Aerosmith, UMG and ultimately our fans. Needless to say, we are very excited. It is an incredible way to celebrate these 50 years and many more to come,” said the co-founder and guitarist. Aerosmith principal Joe Perry.
UMG is the largest music company in the world, with artists such as Billie Eilish, Post Malone, Lady Gaga, and The Rolling Stones.
French media giant Vivendi plans to list UMG in September and earlier this month billionaire hedge fund manager William Ackman bought 7.1% of UMG from Vivendi.
