La Jornada – The first shipment of the Cuban Abdala anticovid vaccine arrives in Mexico

Mexico City. Tonight the first shipment of the Abdala vaccine arrived in the country with four million 92 thousand 500 packaged doses against covid-19, which will be supplied to adults.

With this delivery, in total, since December 23, 2020, Mexico has had 250 million 247 thousand 785 anticovid biologists available.

On December 29, 2021, the Federal Commission for the Protection from Health Risks (Cofepris), established that the authorization for emergency use of the Abdala vaccine was appropriate, with the distinctive name: recombinant protein of the virus receptor binding domain SARS-CoV-2. At 19:57, the Mexican Air Force Hercules aircraft arrived at Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) in Zumpango, State of Mexico from Havana, Cuba.

Staff from the Biological and Reactive Laboratories of Mexico (Birmex), the National Center for Child and Adolescent Health (Censia) and the Federal Commission for Protection attended the arrival, transfer and securing of the doses from Health Risks (Cofepris), as well as elements of the Mexican Army and National Guard.

With doses arrived and since the first shipment arrived in the country on December 23, 2020, Mexico has received 193,231,845 packaged vaccines from Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Gamaleya National Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology Research, CanSino Biologics, Johnson & Johnson, Modern and Abdala.

Similarly, in Mexico, the Drugmex laboratory packaged 14 million 024 thousand 840 doses of CanSino Biologics, and the Liomont laboratory 42 million 991 thousand 100 AstraZeneca biologicals, for a total of 57 million 15 thousand 940 vaccines packaged in the country.
