Mexico City. A new video has emerged showing the moments before and after the attempted assassination of former US President Donald Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13. It is footage from a police officer’s body camera.
The video, released by the Butler Police Department, is from an officer’s body camera and shows the moment an officer spotted the shooter on a rooftop, seconds before he attempted to kill Trump.
The footage shows the confusion of the moment and the instant the officer looks up onto the roof where the shooter, Thomas Matthew Crooks, was positioned. The officer is helped up by a colleague, but quickly climbs down when he sees Crooks. He then runs to alert other officers of the shooter’s presence and heads to his patrol car to grab his gun.
Thirty-nine seconds later, according to police, Crooks opened fire, striking Donald Trump. The shots grazed the former president’s ear, killed one rally-goer, volunteer firefighter and father of two Corey Comperatore, and wounded two other rally-goers.
“He turned around and came at me,” the cop who looked out onto the roof yells to another officer after grabbing his gun and catching his breath. “Who’s looking at him? He was right where you picked me up, bro. He was on the left side.”
Within seconds, more police officers from different units are seen approaching the building, but they are unable to stop the shooter from firing at Trump.
