La Jornada – Nearly 200 health workers suspended in Houston for not getting vaccinated

Houston. About 200 workers at the Methodist Hospital in this city, in the United States, were suspended from their position for not complying with the establishment’s order to be vaccinated against Covid-19, local media reported today.

According to the report by local television station KTRK, a total of 178 hospital employees received neither exemption nor postponement and were suspended without pay for the next 14 days.

A hospital statement cited in the report notes that of these employees, 27 have received one dose of the vaccine and that the hospital expects them to receive their second dose soon.

“We will not have the final figures for another two weeks because workers can still receive the second dose or the single dose vaccine from Johnson & Johnson,” the statement added.

“We wish the number was zero, but unfortunately, a small number of individuals chose not to put their patients first,” he added.

The hospital said 24,947 of its employees complied with the order to inoculate and are now fully vaccinated.

In April, Houston Methodist Hospital ordered all of its workers to get vaccinated against Covid-19 by June 7. Last month, more than 100 employees sued the hospital for forcing them to get vaccinated as a condition of work.

Earlier this week, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed a law that prohibits all businesses operating in Texas from requiring “vaccination passports” or any information related to vaccination.
