Those responsible for the diplomacy of Russia and Ukraine will meet this Thursday in the midst of the conflict unleashed by the Russian offensive, as announced by the Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlüt Çavusoglu, who mediated between the two.
“On Thursday, March 10, we will have a three-way meeting, the foreign ministers of Russia and Ukraine and myself. Both have wanted me to be present at the meeting and both have told me that they would come,” Çavusoglu told reporters in Ankara.
The meeting would take place in the tourist province of Antalya, on the margins of a forum dedicated to international politics, and would be attended by Cavusoglu, as well as the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, and his Ukrainian counterpart, Dmytro Kuleba.
Çavusoglu added that the meeting was confirmed after “dense diplomatic traffic”, including the telephone conversation yesterday between the Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and the Russian, Vladimir Putin.
“Later, Lavrov said that he is ready to participate in the meeting in Antalya. Dmytro Kuleba also let us know that he will participate,” the Turkish minister told Turkey’s Anadolu news agency.
Since the beginning of the conflict, Turkey has maintained a neutral position, on the one hand condemning the invasion as “illegal and unjust” and supporting “the territorial integrity of Ukraine”, including Crimea, and on the other maintaining a normal relationship with Russia, without adhere to European Union (EU) sanctions.

The meeting of Lavrov, Kuleba and Çavusoglu is scheduled for the day before the start of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, an international meeting that is being held for the second time this year, from March 11 to 13.
The list available on the event website includes 168 guests, including dozens of ministers, as well as the EU High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell.
