Due to the current high costs of inputs for the preparation of dough and tortillas, as well as the increase in energy costs, members of the Chamber of the Industry of the Dough and the Tortillera de Campeche, led by Javier González Baqueiro and Carmelo Salvador, They announced the increase of these products by one peso, while with the mototortilleros it will be two pesos, although by agreement with the authorities they do not deliver a full kilo.
Gathered in a public court, before some 300 mototortilleros and some 40 businessmen, they reported said increase in the face of the null response of the representatives of the federal government to solve the problem with the periodic increase in energy, especially in electricity and LP Gas. .
They emphasized that the flour businessmen have not stopped the increase in supplies, since in 2021, despite the pandemic, flour had cost adjustments four times, “always on the rise, and we had to abide by the payment and by not increasing our product, because later the Federal Consumer Protection Office (Profeco) harassed us,” González Baqueiro said.
For this reason, they said that the increase will be one peso for those who go to the mill, while the mototortilleros registered even with the Campeche city council, will have to raise their cost by two pesos, otherwise they would be falling into unfair competition, since one of the problems is precisely the overpopulation of itinerant tortilla distributors who do not have permission from the commune.
“Our customers stopped going to the mill for their dough and tortillas since we facilitated home delivery, there are 300 delivery men with permission at the town hall, but currently about 700 boys work who unfortunately lost their jobs and saw an opportunity in delivering our product , but we must ask the mayor for support to regulate them, because it is affecting us,” he said.
Carmelo Salvador, who was the forerunner of the mototortilleros, explained that by agreement with the authorities, they sell 900 grams instead of a kilo so that the cost is similar to that of the mills. Now with these adjustments, the proposal is to sell 800 grams so as not to compete unfairly with the mills, otherwise they too would do poorly because the price they are given is different.
