La Jornada – Indigenous child trafficked located in New York

A minor Tzeltal indigenous person who was a victim of human trafficking was located, rescued in New York, US, and transferred to Mexico, the State Attorney General’s Office (FFE) said.

In a statement, he explained that the minor was transferred this Tuesday to Mexico City to be handed over to his relatives in Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

He indicated that the Prosecution against trafficking in persons has carried out investigations to identify the teenager with an identity protected with the abbreviation EDG, derived from a complaint that placed her as a victim of human trafficking.

He specified that thanks to the investigations he was in New York, for which the collaboration of the police forces of that city had been requested.

The minor was provisionally guarded by NYC Children, an “agency” that guarantees protection for minors in New York, he said, informing that in coordination with the Mexican consulate in New York, the transfer of the woman from Chiapas was carried out on Tuesday a commercial vehicle flew from the United States to Mexico City, to deliver her to her parents in Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

She said that upon arrival in the country, the girl was met by staff from the Prosecutor’s Office against Trafficking in Persons, charged to FGE.
