Mexico City. The National Council for the Prevention of Discrimination (Conapred) and the Mexican Commission for Refugee Assistance (Comar), in collaboration with the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR), will hold a new edition of the Days for Inclusion and Non-Discrimination tomorrow, August 22 and Friday, August 23 in San Luis Potosí, an inter-institutional strategy that was launched during this administration to eradicate xenophobia, racism and exclusion.
These events have been held since 2019 with the aim of preventing and reducing discriminatory practices faced by refugees, asylum seekers and migrants during their journey and stay in Mexico.
This work is carried out through workshops, forums, and cultural and awareness-raising activities. San Luis Potosí has become a destination for people on the move, as evidenced by the fact that since 2018, UNHCR has assisted around 5,500 people who have arrived in the state, mainly through the Local Integration Program (PIL) for refugees in Mexico, which is an initiative led by this United Nations agency.
The events are held in coordination with the three levels of government, and also count on the collaboration of civil society, in order to promote coexistence based on empathy and understanding, free of prejudices and stereotypes that generate misinformation, disagreements, intolerance and discrimination.
From 2019 to date, 18 events have been held in 11 states of the Republic, which brought together more than 3 thousand people.
With actions like this, “Conapred, Comar and UNHCR reaffirm their commitment to foster an increasingly inclusive society.”
The Inclusion and Non-Discrimination Days this Thursday and Friday in San Luis Potosí will be held at different venues, including the Ministry of Labor and Social Security (STPS). The sites where activities will be held can be consulted through the official social media accounts of the three institutions.
