Paris., Bayern Munich beat Freiburg (2-0) on Sunday, recording a second victory in two Bundesliga games.
After a penalty goal from England striker Harry Kane in the 38th minute, Bayern doubled their lead thanks to veteran Thomas Müller (78), who had come off the bench after the hour mark in his 710th appearance in Bavarian colours, becoming the player with the most appearances for Bayern ahead of former goalkeeper Sepp Maier.
“I don’t attach any more importance to records than that, the most important thing is that today I was able to score a very beautiful goal, technically exceptional,” said the 34-year-old striker, smiling.
Kane scored his first Bundesliga goal of the season with a penalty awarded after VAR intervention for a handball by Freiburg captain Christian Günter. Last season, he was the most prolific striker in the Bundesliga with 36 goals.
Freiburg could have reduced the deficit in the final stages of the match after Joao Palhinha handballed in the box. But Lukas Höler, who had come on 20 minutes earlier, missed the penalty, sending the ball over Manuel Neuer’s goal (90+6).
With six points, Vincent Kompany’s Bayern are joint-leaders of the Bundesliga alongside Leipzig and Heindenheim, who beat Augsburg 4-0 on Sunday.
The second round of the Bundesliga was marked by Bayer Leverkusen’s defeat in Leipzig on Saturday (3-2).
The reigning champions had been unbeaten at home since May 2023 and had gone 35 consecutive league games without defeat.
