Tapachula, Chis. Federal security forces seized an arsenal of long weapons, armored vehicles and handmade items called “monsters” during a search of a property in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas.
In a statement, the representation of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic reported that elements of the National Guard and the Mexican Army participated in the operation.
“29 vehicles (two of the so-called monsters), four motorcycles, 64 long weapons of various calibers, 578 magazines and 1,196 cartridges of various calibers were seized at the scene; in addition to 70 boxes full of cartridges, seven tactical vests and various objects,” the authority detailed.
During the intervention of federal forces there were no arrests. The security sources consulted indicated that it has not been established to which organized crime cartel the arsenal and vehicles belong.
For months, Chiapas has been suffering a spiral of violence due to the dispute between the Sinaloa Cartel and Jalisco Nueva Generación, as well as the self-named Chiapas and Guatemala Cartel.
The FGR indicated the property and everything insured was placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Ministry for crimes of carrying a firearm and possession of cartridges and magazines for the exclusive use of the Armed Forces.
