La Jornada – $ 28,734 million pesos will be allocated for the purchase of anti-Covid vaccines: SHCP

Mexico City. The Secretary of Finance and Public Credit, Rogelio de la O, reported that there will be enough resources next year to buy vaccines against Covid-19, since 28 thousand 734 million will be allocated from the federal budget to acquire biologicals.

It was one of the questions that most of the opposition parliamentary groups agreed on during the official’s appearance in the Senate, for the gloss of the Third Government Report of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

If we have resources, replied the official, who explained that to date 33 thousand 424 million pesos have been allocated for the purchase of vaccines to prevent infections by Covid-19 and the budget for 2022 will be for 28 thousand 734 million pesos “

That is, just over 4 thousand 690 million pesos less in relation to 2021, when most of the vaccines have already been purchased.

In his initial intervention, Ramírez de la O specified that a total of 800 billion pesos will have been allocated to mitigate the effects and damages of the pandemic in the country, resources that will be used for “the acquisition of vaccines and medicines, free health services. and attention to the backwardness in health services “, as well as for the eventual hiring of more personnel in the health sector.

The head of the Treasury added that “aware of the health situation, the resources to continue facing the pandemic were fully guaranteed in this Budget.” He explained to the senators that the treatment that the government will give to the health emergency will be different, because “ We have already learned, we already know that it is very expensive to close the economy, we already know that citizens are going to go out to look for work anyway, we already know that vaccination has effects. “

Therefore, he stressed, “the effect of 2020 and 2021 is not comparable.”
