Created 50 years ago, the “La Ferme s’invite” show took place from Friday November 10 to Sunday November 12 in Poitiers. A showcase of the Poitevin and French agricultural world, the event allowed children, as well as adults, to take an interest in and get to know farm animals up close.
Cows, sheep, goats, chickens… For its ninth edition, “La Ferme s’invite” brought together tens of thousands of people at the Poitiers exhibition center, from Friday November 10 to Sunday November 12. More than 200 breeders from the four corners of France were present at this agricultural show, where visitors were able to walk among the animals.
This event was an opportunity for the youngest to have contact with farm animals, like Lana, who had never gotten so close to a cow. “It’s very soft, it’s warm and comfortableshe says, all smiles, leaning against one of them like a pillow.
Among the most curious people to come to the show were families. Some parents had chosen to take their children to introduce them to the world of the farm. “I want my kids to grow up knowing what a cow, a pig, a sheep, a chicken is, where milk comes from“, says a father with his child in his arms.
For the exhibitors, this moment allowed them to highlight their profession and certain particularities of their livestock. Guillaume Pobeaud, breeder in Allier, owns Highland cows of Scottish origin. “Their horns have a use in terms of body regulation. Inside, it’s hollow. When it breathes cold or hot air, it helps cool the air before it enters the lungs“.
The “La Ferme s’invite” show in Poitiers can be seen as an opportunity for young people to become interested in the agricultural sector. “We involve many agricultural high schools and family centers (MFR) on this issue of training and exchanges.explains Michel Caillé, president of the “La ferme s’invite” association. Why not create vocations for young people in the city of Poitiers and the surrounding area, by establishing contact with breeders to make them want to do this beautiful professionr”.
It wasn’t just animals that were present. The public was able to buy many local products, but also take advantage of numerous tasting stands such as goat cheese and cattle or sheep competitions.
The goat will be in the spotlight at the next agricultural show in Poitou-Charentes. From Wednesday 22 to Thursday 23 November, the international goat show, named Capr’Inov, will take place in Niort (Deux-Sèvres), at the Noron exhibition center.
