LA Deputies Cracking Down on Visible Valuables in Cars

In an effort to curb holiday season⁣ thefts, Los Angeles County Sheriff‘s deputies in Duarte ⁣took to shopping center parking lots this week, issuing “friendly reminders” to shoppers who⁤ left valuables in plain sight.

The Temple‌ station confirmed that deputies distributed these notices, which urge shoppers to avoid becoming victims of‍ crime by removing belongings like purses, cellphones, wallets,⁤ and even labeled packages from their vehicles. While resembling a ticket, the notice ⁣does not carry a fine.

“Your cooperation will help,” the Sheriff’s⁣ station stated. “Together we can reduce opportunities for⁤ crime to‍ occur. Please remember⁣ to lock your vehicle and remove personal ‌property.”

The Temple station clarified with NBC Los Angeles that this initiative ‍was⁢ a “one-time” event, but ‍deputies may‍ repeat the effort‌ later this month as⁢ holiday ⁤shopping intensifies.

Authorities strongly advise shoppers to always lock⁣ their vehicles, ‍roll up windows, and secure⁤ personal belongings in the trunk. For those with car stereos, recording the‍ serial number or engraving their driver’s license number⁢ on the device is recommended.

In addition to keeping valuables out of sight, shoppers shoudl avoid leaving ⁢garage door openers in their vehicles to prevent potential home burglaries. It’s also crucial to never store ⁤original ownership ⁢documents, such as car titles, inside⁤ the vehicle.

These proactive‍ measures aim to ensure a safer holiday shopping experience for everyone.
