It was one of the announcements by Sophie Wilmès, the Prime Minister, this Friday : the mask will be mandatory in public transport, from May 4, for 12 years and over. The federal government and the regions then undertook to guarantee that each citizen would receive a standard cloth mask, free of charge.
According to our information, Defense has been instructed by the federal government to purchase and distribute 12 million cloth masks.
Communes, regions … everyone gets started
This federal purchase therefore comes on top of initiatives taken at other levels of government. Some municipalities, of which Namur, have already announced that they will provide masks to their citizens.

The government of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, on Monday, agreed on the modalities to launch a public procurement procedure with a view to acquiring 1.2 million cloth masks within a fortnight, said Monday the Minister-President Pierre-Yves Jeholet.
These masks will be particularly intended for schools and early childhood environments. The precise distribution methods will still have to be defined.
