Los Angeles (LA) County will be supplied with COVID-19 vaccine in at least 10 days.
Barbara Ferrer, director of the Los Angeles Health Department, told the county supervisor committee meeting on the 8th that the federal government will supply 84,000 doses of vaccines that will be given priority to health care workers working on the front line of quarantine by the 18th at the latest. Director Ferrer added that the second and third doses will be secured by the end of this month, and that a certain amount of vaccine will be supplied every week from next year.
In the early stages of vaccine supply, it is known that the Federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Prevention and Immunity Commission, and the California Department of Health will each prepare guidelines for priority vaccination. In this regard, Ferrer said that medical and health personnel and residents of long-term care facilities including nursing home hospitals will be vaccinated first during this month.
Los Angeles County estimates that 300,000 doses of vaccination for health care personnel and 175,000 doses for residents and employees of long-term care facilities are required for the second and third doses. The federal government acknowledged the demand and promised a second-line vaccine, Ferrer said.
According to the CDC’s’Required Types’ standard, the priority order of vaccination is to be in essential fields such as teachers, childcare workers, police officers, firefighters, and first aid personnel after health care personnel. Director Ferrer reported to the committee that he would have to wait for the turn.
