La Chaux-de-Fonds: deficit of 3.3 million francs

Canton of Neuchâtel

If the city still has a structural charge surplus of around 10 million francs, the 2019 result is better than expected.

La Chaux-de-Fonds therefore campaigned for compensation for geotopographic overloads.

La Chaux-de-Fonds (NE) posted a deficit of 3.3 million francs in 2019, while the budget forecast a negative result of 6.8 million. The revaluation of the stake in the water and electricity supplier Viteos improved the exercise.

“The municipal council is delighted with this better than expected result, but is not reassured,” he said on Wednesday when the accounts were published. “The city still has a structural charge surplus of around 10 million francs, which cannot be settled,” he added.

Without the extraordinary result linked to the revaluation of Viteos’ stake, the deficit would have been 9.4 million francs. In 2018, La Chaux-de-Fonds recorded a loss of 2.1 million and an economic deficit of 11.6 million.

La Chaux-de-Fonds therefore campaigned for compensation for geotopographic overloads, namely to recognize the costs linked to the climate. Thirteen million are at stake not to mention commuter taxes, “significant amounts” which must come to him, said the City.

Tax revenue: slight decline

In annual comparison, personnel costs fell slightly in 2019. They amounted to 113.7 million francs, against 114.6 million in 2018.

Despite an increase in personal income and an increase in cross-border tax, tax revenues were down slightly last year. They went from 112.3 million francs in 2018 to 111.6 million in 2019. Tax revenue was affected by a decrease in legal persons, due in particular to taxation lower than the installments paid for one of the main taxpayers.

Budgeted investments were not all made in 2019. The level of investments amounted to 17.1 million francs, while they were budgeted at 23.4 million.
