Milan

Inter Milan and AC Milan will have its own cage starting in 2027. Later the new headquarters of the fashion city team will have the nickname La Catedral.

This announcement was made by Inter and Milan officially, Wednesday (21/12/2021) early morning WIB or Tuesday afternoon local time. Both announced that they had reached an agreement with the city government of Milan regarding the construction of a new stadium.

Later, the new stadium will be built right on the vacant lot next to the current Giuseppe Meazza/San Siro. The architectural firm Populous was chosen by Inter and Milan to design their new home.

Populous with a Cathedral design beats Rings of Milano from Sportium. For information, Populous is also designing and building a new home for Tottenham Hotspur, namely the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

The new home for Inter and Milan will have the nickname The Cathedral or La Catedral in Italian, inspired by the Duomo Cathedral which is an icon of the city of Milan and the galleria.

Once construction is complete, the San Siro will be demolished or at least reduced in capacity to accommodate the women’s and youth teams’ soccer fields.

“This bowl-shaped cathedral will become one of the most intimate stadiums in Europe, bringing fans closer to the game than ever before and creating an extraordinary atmosphere.”

Not only being the stadium where Inter and Milan compete, La Catedral will provide an unforgettable experience for fans who can enjoy meals in various restaurants.

Like modern stadiums in general, La Catedral will use solar panels to absorb energy that can be used to power the stadium. Then, there is also a rainwater absorption system and it will be recycled before being used again throughout the stadium.

Around the stadium, there is a green park covering an area of 22 hectares as well as being supported by a heating and cooling system. However, Inter and Milan fans still have to be patient because the new stadium can be used in 2027.

Construction will continue for the next six years or so and the Meazza will be demolished after the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics in the city of Milan.

The new stadium will have a smaller capacity than the Meazza (80 thousand seats), which is around 65,000 seats. However, since this stadium is owned by both clubs, all the revenue from the stadium will go to cash Inter Milan and AC Milan.

Reportedly there is a minimum income of 80 million euros per season can be obtained by the two Italian giants when La Catedral is finished.
