From Thursday May 11 to Saturday May 13, nine of the 15 students from La Briquerie high school who took part in the design of an ultralight racing car will be traveling to Albi to take part in the Éduc Éco Race, an event that brings together, on the same circuit, high school and university students around electrical innovation. The prototype entirely “tinkered” by a team supervised by two backpackers of the event, Fred Vaudois, professor of electrical engineering, and Luc Dal Degan, professor of mechanical engineering, weighs less than 40 kg thanks to its carbon fiber structure and its honeycomb frame. Two pilots have been designated and will have to take turns to complete the two hours of racing, consuming as little as possible. They are Ilan Rubeck, general and technological second student, and Alena Gilles, first professional student for whom this will be the second race.
White page and green energy
“I run in tribute to my tennis teacher who died at the age of 20 in a car accident”, testifies the high school student. Ilan, he was seduced by the uniqueness of the project. “I find it surprising and that’s what I liked. “The “Kiwis”, the name adopted by the La Briquerie team, crowned with the record of their elders in 2018 – 4,300 km with one liter of gasoline – hope to get on the podium. Especially since, this year, the Thionvillois high school will have a new card up its sleeve, that of energy self-sufficiency. Thanks to the work of two BTS Électrotechnique students, a trailer equipped with solar panels and a wind turbine will provide the electrical energy needed for the racing car. “They started from a blank sheet”, emphasizes their teacher, Fred Vaudois, proud of the work carried out. “It wasn’t easy,” summarize Gaël and Quentin, who went through a phase of studying the weather conditions in Albi to design their green program.
