La Barrié provides opportunity for two students from Pontevedra to study in London during summer.

The Barrie Foundation announced this Thursday the names of the eight Galician university students selected in the third edition of the international research scholarship program during the summer Summer Undergraduate Fellowship Programamong which there are two from Pontevedra.

These are young people who will carry out laboratory practices in the Medicine and Infection and Immunity divisions of the University College London (United Kingdom) and in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology of the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (United States) for nine weeks, between June 26 and August 25, 2023. During the stay, students will have the opportunity to participate in seminars, journal clubs and other scientific experiences to broaden their knowledge.

The eight university students study Pharmacy (3); Medicine (3); Biology (1) and Biochemistry + Science Business Program (1). The latter is Carlos Casquero Fernandez de Ana (Pontevedra, 2002), who is currently studying at the University of Navarra.

The other woman from Pontevedra (also born in 2002), although a neighbor of Vilagarcía, is Irene Pereira Reboredowho studies Medicine in the Complutense University of Madrid. The average mark of the academic record of the group of selected students is 8.55 out of 10. The University of Santiago de Compostela heads the list with the highest number of scholarship holders (5), followed by the Complutense (2) and the University of Navarra (1 ).

As for the destination, six fellows will carry out their research stay in the Medicine and Infection and Immunity divisions of University College London (United Kingdom), among them Carlos Casquero and Irene Pereira. The others are Eva Perez Barciela (Vigo, 2001), who is studying Pharmacy at USC; Inés Antela Costa (Santiago, Pharmacy student at USC), Luis Martinez Garcia (Lugo, medical student at the Complutense) and the Compostela Sara Varela Miguezwho studies medicine at the college in his hometown.

Two other fellows in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center at Shreveport (United States). They are two USC students: David García Remo (A Coruña), Pharmacy; and Laura Lopez Candales (Bertamiráns), from Biology.

What does the scholarship consist off?

The lucky ones will have all paid expenses, including the English level test; accident, illness, evacuation and repatriation insurance, and housing search advice.

Those who will go to London, as is the case of Carlos and Irene, will receive an initial endowment of 1.000 euros for travel and visa expenses and an allowance of 4.100 euros for living expenses.

Those who will travel to USA They will have a remuneration for the total amount of $4,320 gross, a single initial endowment of 1,500 euros for travel and visa expenses and an allowance of 2,000 euros for living expenses.
