Breast cancer is the first cause of death in women in Chile and many of these cases could have been avoided if they had been detected in time. To that end, La Araucana and the Fundación Arturo López Pérez (FALP) joined forces and began a free Breast Cancer Early Detection Preventive Tour in Copiapó on June 8 and 9 for their affiliates.
This initiative contemplates a tour of 56 cities, with more than 2,000 exams that will be carried out in a FALP mobile clinic that has a digitized mammograph, being able to access isolated areas of the country, so that women can have their mammogram, in addition to the staff and the delivery of interactive educational material that invites women to learn about the importance of preventing cancer and adopting healthy lifestyle habits.
“Every year 5,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Chile. And one of the reasons why this exam is postponed and not done on time is the geographical distance from health centers or the cost. Along the line, with the aim of being closer to our affiliates looking for their well-being, we want to offer free exams to women over 40 years of age, who can previously schedule their time through the branches or the executives”, explains Francisco Sepúlveda, manager General of La Araucana.
This benefit is added to others provided by the compensation fund to facilitate its affiliates, affiliates and their families access to preventive health care, or consultations or access to medications at a lower cost.
