L1: the LFP responds after the Mediapart article

In the aftermath of a worrying article by Mediapart on the financial health of Ligue 1 clubs following the coronavirus crisis (see here), the Professional Football League (LFP) reacted in a press release to deny “firmly all the untruths relating to the ELP (the loan guaranteed by the state) contained in this article”.

Thus, the League ensures that this loan “does not involve any financial risk for the LFP”, referring to “a repayment plan over 4 years by direct debit from the 5.3 billion euros of audiovisual income already concluded and to be collected on the 2020/2024 cycle. ” The LFP wants to be reassuring, “the reimbursements do not represent more than 5% of the total revenues of the LFP and do not put French taxpayers under any circumstances.”

The LFP “regrets the instrumentalization of the PGE” and is also offended by the publication in L’Equipe of the exchanges held during the General Assembly on Wednesday. “These breaches of the confidentiality of the discussions taking place within the LFP are unacceptable,” it says. “Consequently, and following the publication of these two articles, the LFP today files two complaints against X with the Public Prosecutor of Paris in order to shed light on the conditions under which exchanges and confidential documents have been disclosed without authorization “, concludes the press release.
