Hypocrisy has its limits and it seems that politicians think that people have short memories.
The Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is annoyed that the president of the Official Opposition party is calling for elections, forgetting of course what he himself had done in 2016, as soon as he won the internal party elections of New Democracy against Vangelis Meimarakis, in January 2016.
“Greece can’t stand you anymore. And since, as it seems, this Parliament cannot provide another solution, let the people provide the solution. Now that you have arrived in the country, the cost of your stay is greater than the cost of your removal process.” the new leader of the New Democracy told the Parliament with a certain amount of arrogance, perhaps even insolence, in March 29, 2016.
And even after a double defeat of his party. Did you remember him? Alexis Tsipras to enter an empty Maximos Palace with Antonis Samaras rudely absent as he had not digested the defeat?
Eight years later, Kyriakos Mitsotakis wants to forget that back then, with a defeated party in double elections, he called for elections!
And today, in a society where the woes of five years of class politics have accumulated, he is trying to contain the exodus from his party.
Perhaps it was a surprise since they believed that the people were asleep and only listened to the channels of the businessmen who profited manifold from his rule.
He doesn’t want to believe that the 41% bubble is bursting!
No one knows what they will bring European elections but all the analyzes and the signals they receive, are (so far) a major setback for her New Republic in the electorate losing to her right but also to the center.
This is a photo of the moment, of today.
Certainly, the stormy events that have taken place recently are not easy to digest.
Initially they thought that even the accuracy, with visits to the supermarkets, would be tested in terms of reactions. But how to be fooled when the salary, allowance, pension ends faster and faster within the month?
Many accumulated without being captured in the polls until recently. When and if these are considered valid.
Except that often a match is enough to set fire to the whole building that accumulates flammable materials.
And that match was the crime in Tempe and the attempted cover-up that fell upon a pent-up and so far unexpressed resentment.
They had underestimated popular sentiment and the attempt to fool him came across as grave-digging.
They rested in the state of confusion created in the SYRIZA and they relied on the “defections” and the huge amount of time they gave their “own” channels to the dissidents hoping for a more convenient party in the official opposition and a split.
Except that it didn’t happen and as much as they wanted it to, reality overtook them.
They found themselves on plastic laurels admiring themselves to the public’s outrage.
They underestimated the dynamics of the “new” and that their materials were outdated.
And now they are afraid of a New Democracy that is retreating from 41%.
They are also talking about under 30% which is too early for anyone to say.
Maybe some are preparing the next day. It is no coincidence that Kyriakos Mitsotakis wants a place in Europe. Perhaps some will judge that his cycle has “ended”. He denies it but he couldn’t go to an election confirming it!
But certainly the “elections” that the president of SYRIZA called for, Stefanos Kasselakis it was neither unprecedented, nor excessive, nor out of season.
After all, the only one who cannot blame him is Mitsotakis himself since he said so at the beginning of 2016 as soon as he took the leadership of New Democracy after a double victory of SYRIZA and a slap from the people who said “NO”. Why are they talking about arrogance now?
New Democracy wants to forget this 27,81% which he had won in the parliamentary elections of January 2015…
Perhaps this is also why the prime minister’s great irritation with the Maximos Palace to seek by machine Gods…
