After the match-winning ball against Paul Jubb in Wimbledon’s first round, the controversial Australian turned around and spat at a spectator. Something he has now been fined for with 10,000 dollars, about 103,000 Swedish kronor.
Kyrgios commented on the incident at the press conference afterwards:
– As soon as I won the match, I turned to him. I have endured hatred and negativity for a long time, I do not owe him anything. He did not come to the match to watch tennis, he only came to crochet.
The star was noticeably disturbed during the match and turned to the same supporter already after three games and said:
– You can not talk to me in the middle of a point when I’m hitting a backhand, you just can not do that.
He was really annoyed with the referee during the breaks and could be heard protesting loudly. At one point, he slammed into a ball so it flew a good distance outside the arena. Kyrgios won the match in three straight sets.
– This (supporter incident) has nothing to do with Wimbledon. People think they have the right to comment on everything. Just because there is a fence and I can not do anything, they feel they can say what they want.
Nick Kyrgios has since advanced to the third round. He outclassed Serb Filip Krajinovic in three straight sets and now faces Stefanos Tsitsipas.
