On Instagram, Selena Gomez (30) and Kylie Jenner (25) have always been in a head-to-head race for the most followers. The youngest sister of the Kardashian clan has long held the lead with 381 million followers, but now Selena has easily overtaken the entrepreneur with 390 million followers. What’s more, Kylie has even dropped to 379 million subscribers.
The decline in followers is said to have something to do with an alleged argument between Selena and Kylie.

How did the alleged dispute come about?
That’s what it’s about: Selena posted a video on the TikTok platform on February 22nd. In the video, she reveals to her followers that her eyebrow lifting went wrong and takes it with humor.
A few hours later Kylie posted a selfie on her Instagram story, and a detail made Selena’s fans suspect Kylie was making fun of the singer.

Kylie placed lettering right on her eyebrows and captioned it, “That was an accident?????” A nod from the young entrepreneur to Selena’s eyebrow fail? It didn’t stop there – a little later Kylie posted a screenshot of a FaceTime call from her friend Hailey Bieber – wife of Selena’s ex Justin Bieber (28).

SHE got the ball rolling
After Kylie’s second post, content creator Nuha, who specializes in celebrity rumors, was sure the two friends were making fun of Selena.
Both Kylie and Selena felt compelled to respond. Kylie commented under Nuha’s video: “This is far fetched. I’ve never had bad blood with Selena, and I didn’t see her post with the eyebrows! You invent something out of nothing! That’s ridiculous.” And Selena assures: “It’s all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!”
However, the fans don’t believe a word the girls say. And so Kylie lost a total of two million of her followers, most of them siding with Selena Gomez.
Hailey Bieber amplifies the drama
The fact that Hailey Bieber is part of the alleged dispute gives fans confirmation that it really is a nasty bit of slander. Hailey and Selena have long been viewed as enemies online. Why? Both dated the same guy. Hailey has been married to Selena’s longtime ex-boyfriend Justin Bieber since 2018.
Since the eyebrow gate, Hailey has also clearly felt the anger of the fans and, like Kylie, has lost masses of followers. Under her pictures on Instagram you can read the same comments over and over again: “Mean girl” and “Unfollow!”
Selena takes a break
In response to all the drama, Selena Gomez wants to take a break from Instagram, TikTok and Co.
She says: “It’s all a bit ridiculous. And I’m 30. I’m too old for this.”
In any case, Selena emerges as a winner from this drama – she has gained 10 million new followers in just one week. Kylie, on the other hand, lost almost two million fans and is now only behind Selena.
