20:30 yesterday – The summer saga surrounding the future of Kylian Mbappé appears to be coming to an end. After the France international returned to training with his teammates on Sunday, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi announced that Mbappé will not only stay at the club for this season, but expects the player to soon extend his contract at the Parc des Princes until 2025.
“Kylian is committed to PSG. Kylian is back,” Al-Khelaifi announced to the PSG players on Sunday morning the return of the club’s biggest star to training with the team.
A little later, PSG said in a post on social media: “Following very constructive and positive discussions between Paris Saint-Germain and Kylian Mbappé ahead of the match against Lorient, the player was re-incorporated into team training this morning.”
The news of Mbappé’s return to the team came just days after the player informed PSG that he would not leave the club under any circumstances during this transfer window and was ready to sit out the entire season in the stands.
Now everything seems different and Mbappé will not only not have to sit in the stands this season, but the president of the Al-Khelaifi club even expects the player to extend his contract at PSG for another year.
Mbappé’s current contract would otherwise expire in 2024, and with the striker last month rejecting a move to Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal, who offered a record £258 million for him, PSG were in danger of losing the star scorer without a replacement.
On the other hand, his attacking teammate Neymar could head to Saudi Arabia in the near future, as Al Hilal turned their attention to the Brazilian representative, who recently announced at the club that he wants to leave during the summer.
At 31, Neymar is no longer seen as a key player under new PSG coach Luis Enrique, who intends to build a younger and hungrier squad in which there is reportedly no room for the former Barcelona superstar.
