Kylian Mbappé reveals PSG game plan to stop Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich

Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappé did some major damage to Bayern Munich during his squad’s 3-2 victory over the Bavarians in the Champions League.

While Bayern Munich dominated long stretches of the match, Mbappé and his partner in crime, Neymar, were tasked with carrying out two specific orders from manager Mauricio Pochettino:

  • Close Joshua Kimmich’s passing lanes.
  • Make runs in deep behind the Bayern Munich backline.

One out of two isn’t bad…and in this case worked well. While Kimmich put forth a stellar performance, Neymar and Mbappé gave the Bavarians’ backline fits all game long.

“The coach wanted me and Neymar to close the passing lines on Kimmich,” Mbappé told RMC Sport (as captured by Sport1). “I was supposed to run deep to overcome the Bayern block and force them to run, because they don’t like that. It worked well today.”

There might not be an easy way to disrupt Kimmich, but PSG clearly found a consistent way to create issues for Bayern Munich’s defense. If the Bavarians cannot solve that issue next Tuesday, it could be a long trip home from Paris.
