British tennis player Kyle Edmund will make his return to the professional circuit at the ATP 500 in Washington.
Entry list
At 27 years old, the man who during this week occupies the position No.497 of the ATP ranking will make his return to the circuit after having surpassed knee injury that has kept him in dry dock for so long. He has tried to come back several times, but his recovery has been very slow and therefore he has encountered many problems.
21 months without competing
His last match comes from the ATP 500 tournament in Vienna at the end of October 2020. It’s 21 months without having officially competed in an ATP tournament although at Wimbledon he showed signs of his improvement by having signed up for the mixed doubles to be able to compete in front of his people. Edmund was one of the great British hopes when Andy Murray began with the hip injury that kept him out for a long time and in which he made his retirement official, although he later decided to continue playing tennis.
His best result comes from the semi-finals at the 2018 Australian Open where he defeated Kevin Anderson, Denis Istomin, Nikoloz Basilashvili, Andreas Seppi and Grigor Dimitrov to end up losing to Marin Cilic in three sets. The player born in Johannesburg has two ATP titles in New York 2020 and Antwerp 2018, having reached the No.14 position in that wonderful 2018.
2020 was not a good season for anyone because of everything that was happening, but Edmund will make his return to the Washington ATP from August 1 with a streak of five consecutive losses. His last win was in the first round of the US Open where as World No.44, he defeated Alexander Bublik. Then came losses to Novak Djokovic, Marco Cecchinato, Lloyd Harris, Yoshihito Nishioka and Jason Jung.
