Kyle Busch defends Austin Dillon and criticizes Joey Logano’s comments after the incident in Richmond.

Kyle Busch, driver for Richard Childress Racing (RCR), did not hold back in his criticism of Joey Logano after Logano made harsh comments about Austin Dillon’s controversial move that resulted in a crash at the Cook Out 400 at Richmond. The incident, in which Dillon shot down Logano and Denny Hamlin in the final turn and secured a win, led to NASCAR stripping Dillon of his automatic playoff eligibility.

Busch, who has had aggressive on-track encounters with both Logano and Hamlin in the past, was quick to defend his RCR teammate and criticize Logano for his comments. Logano had criticized Dillon, claiming that Dillon’s maneuver was desperate and lacked talent.

Busch, however, pointed out the irony in Logano’s comments, pointing out that Logano himself is known for using similarly aggressive tactics to win races. Busch recalled that Logano has been involved in several controversial finishes, including one in the K&N Pro Series race at Irwindale in which Logano used a similar move to secure the win.

In a telling remark, Busch said, “The guy it happened to is probably the guy who did it the most… I think with his comments, he could label himself that way.” With that remark, Busch sought to point out what he sees as a double standard in Logano’s criticism of Dillon, given Logano’s own history of aggressive driving.

Busch’s defense of Dillon and criticism of Logano stem not only from his desire to support his teammate, but also from the long-standing rivalry between Logano and the RCR drivers. The tension between these drivers adds another layer to the ongoing drama in the NASCAR Cup Series, with Busch making it clear that he views Logano’s comments as hypocritical.

Ultimately, while Busch acknowledges the controversial nature of Dillon’s maneuver, his criticism of Logano’s remarks underscores the complex relationships and rivalries that continue to shape the dynamics within NASCAR.
