It is better to look ironically or sarcastically at the various peace plans regarding Russia’s war against Ukraine that are currently circulating in the media space with reference to informed sources. Especially when such plans, very clearly synchronized with Russian intentions, are called “peace agreements”, “peace plans” or “peace initiatives”.
This was stated by the adviser to the head of the presidential office Mykhailo Podoliak, quoted by UNIAN.
He noted that when it comes to the war in Ukraine, there is an absolutely concrete record of the legal fact of aggression by the Russian Federation. The entire war was fought on the territory of Ukraine, a large number of crimes were committed: killing of civilians, destruction of civilian infrastructure.
“Here, any ‘peace plans’ that are based on the need to immediately freeze the war and give something to the Russian Federation are certainly plans of the Russian Federation. No more, no less. Because there is no way to talk about peace here,” he added.
According to him, it should be clearly said: the Russian Federation does not stand for sustainable peace, but for its own conditions for ending the war.
“Let me remind you that Russia uses the strange term ‘Istanbul Accords.’ In fact, there were no “Istanbul agreements” because the Russian Federation used such ultimatums at the previous stages of the negotiation processes at the beginning of the war – in Belarus, including in Turkey, they put forward ultimatums, and President Zelensky repeatedly said this. , emphasized Podoliak.
According to the adviser to the head of the president’s office, officially today there are only, conditionally, two initiatives that have been publicly announced.
“The first is the peace initiatives, indeed the peace initiatives of Ukraine. Because they are absolutely based on international law. That is, this is the Peace Formula, which talks about the grounds on which negotiations can be conducted and what results should be achieved in these negotiations,” emphasized Podolyak. There is also a second component – this is the Russian version of the ultimate capitulation of Ukraine, which in one interpretation or another, for example, was further used by the Brazilian-Chinese group:
The third, very important factor – we have to wait for certain stages to pass before we know what the US strategy will be. One of them is the formation of the Trump administration, when it will become clear who will really be in charge of foreign policy, finance, national security and defense, Podoliak also reminded. He noted that after communication with the new administration of President Trump, between President Zelensky and Trump, “we will see an official position that can be commented on.”
