“Within the project “Dzimtenes Trijzobis” the dismantling of the Soviet coat of arms of the Motherland monument is underway. These works are proceeding according to the schedule,” the statement said.
“On the Independence Day of Ukraine, the monument will receive its new symbol – the Ukrainian Trident,” the ministry said.

On July 13, former Minister of Culture Oleksandrs Tkachenko announced that the USSR coat of arms of the Motherland monument will be replaced by the coat of arms of Ukraine by August 24.
Yuriy Savchuk, general director of the Second World War History Museum of Ukraine, announced his intention to rename the monument itself to the Mother Ukraine monument by August 24.
The decision of the scientific council of the museum has yet to be approved by the Ministry of Culture.
The monument was opened in 1981. The sculpture depicts a woman holding a raised sword in one hand and a shield in the other. The coat of arms of the USSR, which is currently being dismantled, is located on the shield.
