The Netherlands has several sunny days ahead. That’s a good look for many people, but it’s also a reason to pay extra attention to whether people are protecting themselves properly from the sun, warns KWF Cancer Control. The organization therefore funds several projects to ensure that people protect themselves from the sun.
For example, excessive sun exposure can cause skin cancer. Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer in the Netherlands. Skin cancer is more common in coastal areas than elsewhere in the Netherlands, it was shown last year Cankeratlas which was designed by the Comprehensive Cancer Center of the Netherlands. There are more hours of sunshine and higher solar power.
“More research needs to be done on this, but that is the truth,” said KWF spokeswoman Annebel Schipper. News NOS Radio 1. In addition, people do not always have the right knowledge to protect themselves from the effects of the sun. KWF Cancer Control wants to change that.
4.6 million euros
KWF Cancer Control has allocated 4.6 million euros for investment in eight sectors. Some of that money goes to sunscreen sellers. These ‘grease poles’ are placed in various places, such as beach tents, childcare facilities and sports fields. The first transmitter will be installed in Noordwijk on May 17. Guest lectures are also given by dermatologists at several schools.
Many people know that sunscreen is important, but don’t, for example, using sunscreen once is often not enough. Our advice is: do that every two hours, says Schipper. “Touching or swimming will make the sun go off.” People should also be reminded of these grease poles.
KWF sets up solar poles for ‘stubborn Dutch people’
It doesn’t matter whether people buy expensive or cheap sunscreen, says Schipper. “Always use factor 30, you’ll be fine.”
Sunscreen isn’t the only tool people can use to protect themselves from the sun. “UV-protective clothing is also distributed to outdoor workers. It’s a diverse palette to protect people from the sun.”
