Eight thousand 230 families in vulnerable situations from the four communes of the municipality of Cahombo (Mbanje Ya Ngola, Micanda, Cambo Sunjinje and Sede), will be assisted under the Social Protection Strengthening Program “Kwenda
Households from 230 villages in the district will begin to be registered this month.
The program was presented on Monday (18) in the municipality of Cahombo, during an event guided by the Provincial director of the Local Development Institute (FAS), Gomes Golambole, and which culminated in the signing of the memorandum of understanding between the Municipal Administration of Cahombo and the institute.
According to the person responsible, the program aims to reduce the poverty rate in rural areas and promote the quality of life of the most needy families.
He called for the mobilization of communities for the success of the different stages of the process, recalling that in addition to Cahombo, the third phase of expansion also covers the municipalities of Kiwaba Nzoji and Marimba.
In turn, the Director of the Provincial Office for Social Action, Family and Gender Equality, Angelina Camueje, highlighted the relevance of Kwenda in increasing the purchasing capacity of families in the short and medium term.
Meanwhile, the municipal administrator of Cahombo, João Isarael Cabamba, reaffirmed the impact of Kwenda in reducing poverty that still prevails in some communities, and guaranteed the engagement of local authorities for the success of the program.
Currently, Kwenda assists 40,864 households in four of the 14 municipalities of Malanje, namely Cambundi-Catembo, a pilot municipality, with 7,492 beneficiaries, Luquembo with 12,400, Quirima and Calandula with 4,140; and 17 thousand and 163 families, respectively.
Kwenda is a program of the Angolan Executive, which aims to create policies to support the poorest and most vulnerable families in the country.
Valued at USD 420 million, it is financed with USD 320 million by the World Bank and the remaining 100 million from the National Treasury.
The Program is operated by FAS, a government agency, with legal personality, financial and administrative autonomy, which, in coordination with other anti-poverty programs, contributes to promoting the sustainable development of communities.
In addition to monetary social transfers, KWENDA also has the components of Productive Inclusion, Municipalization of Social Action, through the creation of Integrated Social Action Centers (CASI) and the Strengthening of the Single Social Registry.
