Kvitová is back in the elite ten, just behind Plíšková

Two-time Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitová has returned to the absolute tennis elite. Thanks to the quarterfinal participation in the tournament in Madrid, she moved to 10th place, Karolína Plíšková is ninth. Australian Ashleigh Barty increased the lead again, the defeated finalist has 2440 points ahead of second-placed Naomi Osaka from Japan.

Barty, who eliminated Kvitová in Madrid, has been leading the rankings since September 2019. Her Saturday’s conqueror Aryna Sabalenková from Belarus has moved from seventh to fourth place in the rankings and is at a new personal maximum. The doubles champions from Spanish clay Kateřina Siniaková and Barbora Krejčíková did not improve their position – Krejčíková is seventh, her partner eighth.

Novak Djokovic started the 320th week today at the top of the ATP rankings. The star Serb broke Roger Federer’s male record in March (310 weeks) and today came third in the men’s and women’s standings ahead of Serena Williams. Steffi Grafová (377) spent the most weeks on the throne, and Martina Navrátilová (332) is ahead of Djokovic.

Krejčíková and Siniaková won the tournament in Madrid, Czech Vrbenský in Štvanice ends in the semifinals

The new world number two is the Russian Daniil Medvedev, who relegated the Spaniard Rafael Nadal to the third position. The best Czech tennis player in the ranking is Jiří Veselý, 73.
